Simply put, this is a love song about the beautiful State of Montana, where I lived in summers visiting my father when I grew up ... and where I eventually moved to in my senior year of high school. I stayed in Montana for 10 years after high school traveling all over this great state during the mid 1970's to 1980's with my band "Cabin Fever". We toured and played live music all over the west enjoying God's beautiful landscape, feeling a part of the earth and all was well with our souls. However, at the time, if you weren't ranching in Montana (there were more cows than people), there were very few sustainable jobs outside of playing music, so when our band stopped touring, we all left the area for more predictable and steady employment. The memories of this time in Montana, however will be with me forever. This song was inspired one particular night when I went camping along the Stillwater River. I never knew there was really such a thing as a "blue moon" until this one beautiful night ... and then I witnessed it.
Yep, Montana the beautiful ... you have lassoe'd my heart.
Lyrics
MONTANA LOVE SONG
THE STILLWATER VALLEY WAS LIT UP TONIGHT
BY THE LIGHT OF A MAGICAL MOON
I HELD MY SWEETHEART THERE UNDER THE STARS
HUMMIN’ AN OLD COWBOY TUNE
UNDERNEATH THE BIG SKY OF MONTANA
COOL NITE BREEZES AND EASY GUITARS
HOWLIN’ COYOTES AND WHISPERIN’ WINDS
BLOW ME HOME TO THE PLACE
THAT’S LASSOE’D MY HEART
A STIR FROM THE HORSES
A BLANKET A STARS
A WIFF OF A WILD MOUNTAIN FLOWER
SOUNDS OF THE CREEK RUSHIN’ QUIETLY BY
AS WE DRIFT OFF TO SLEEP BY THE FIRE
C H O R U S
TAG: YOU CAN BURY ME NEATH THE BIG MONTANA SKY
