As a singer/songwriter/ American artist, I enjoy telling story songs and bringing little bits of real life moments into the musical spotlight by allowing "thoughts" to become "songs". Talk about exposing yourself! You have to be unfettered to spill your guts out in a song as honest as this one. So I figured, what the heck ... if I have thought this thought, then chances are some other gal has probably thought the same thing too ... so why shouldn't I just tell the story? Here's one such song ... revealing what I believe other women may have also romanticized about a “cowboy” ... that there may be this rugged, handsome, tough but tender fella out there just waiting to find love. I've listened to country music all my life referring to the "cowboy" in an elusive but endearing way (Waylon: “Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys" . . . .Toby Keith: "Should've Been A Cowboy" … Dixie Chicks: “Cowboy Take Me Away”, and so on.) So this song reveals the heart of a wanna-be cowgirl secretly searching for her imaginery cowboy. Please tell me I'm not the only female who ever felt this way? Come on gals, help me out here … and if there are really any real cowboys left, my hats off to you! This one is tipping my hat to “The Cowboy I Never Have Met".
Lyrics
The Cowboy I Never Met
THERE’S A COWBOY I NEVER HAVE MET
ON A HORSE SOMEWHERE IN THE WAY OUT WEST
HE'S GOT A BUFFALO BILL CODY SMIRK ON HIS FACE
LIKE HE’S UP TO NO GOOD AND IT’S TROUBLE HE MAKES
TRAVELLIN’ UNDERNEATH HIS MONTANA MOON
IT’S HOTTER THAN A PISTOL THERE IN BOZEMAN IN JUNE
SO HE RIDES IN THE NIGHT ON A CHINOOK WIND
MAKIN’ PEACE IN THE VALLEY ON A BUCK SKIN FRIEND
YELLOWSTONE GOLD WELL THAT’S THE COLOR OF HIS HAT
HE’D HAND YOU THE SHIRT FROM RIGHT OFF OF HIS BACK
A GENTLEMAN ALWAYS, BUT DON’T MESS WITH HORSE ….
CUZ YOU’LL MEET WITH THE DEVIL IN A HAT THERE OF COURSE
CHORUS
THE COYOTES HOWL …. WELL THAT’S MUSIC TO HIS EARS
WHEN THEY’RE PLAYIN HIS SONG HIS CARES DISAPPEAR
SO HE FOLLOWS THEIR MUSIC WHEN HE HEARS IT IN THE WIND
AND TALKS TO THE TRAIL BOSS WHEN THE LONELY SETS IN
CHORUS
